The set: an old-fashioned exhibition room with several objects hung on panels and presented in display cases. A very serious, by-the-book security guard is sitting at the back of the room and, in the very centre, a young woman is running on a treadmill. As she goes from cool and collected to hot and sweaty, she describes her appearance and her innermost self. She never stops running—running as if her life depended on it.
In this play of which Kristien De Proost is the author, star performer, subject and object, we are invited to reflect on the meaning of life. At a time when everyone is using Facebook as a showcase to put their entire lives on display, how reliable are these self-portraits? Au courant is a life laid bare—figuratively and literally
