À TRAVERS MES YEUX
Bouge de là
A dancer comes on stage, where she discovers a big ball. Intrigued, she approaches it cautiously. As soon as she touches it, the magic of the theatre is unleashed: the lights come up, the set appears and shadows play tricks on her—even causing her to multiply! Now there are four of her to play as they discover this ever-changing environment: a a graphic world inhabited by shapes, colours, textures, sounds and illusions. It’s a topsy-turvy playground in which dance is queen, inviting the audience to explore this jack-in-the-box through the innocent eyes of a child.
Although the usual creative choreography process involves creating the dance before adding the scenic elements, this particular work evolved in the other direction! To illustrate the different paths that children’s imaginations take to make sense of what they are seeing, the movements in this choreography were shaped by the various elements contributed by the designers. À travers mes yeux is visual poetry, stimulating children’s senses while taking the rest of us back to that most wonderful quality of childhood: a perpetual sense of wonder.
Founded in 2000 by choreographer Hélène Langevin, Bouge de là is entirely devoted to new dance productions for young audiences. Its contemporary dance shows, full of humour and poetry, combine different artistic disciplines, including video, theatre and shadow puppetry. À travers mes yeux (Through My Eyes) is the company’s eighth creation.
