NOT QUITE MIDNIGHT
In this greyest of hours, Cas Public summons up the magic of Cinderella—but not just the magic of the tales of Perrault and the Brothers Grimm and the operas of Rossini and Prokofiev, but also that of the hundreds of lesser-known versions that have been passed down in the oral tradition. Six dancers trade their ballet slippers for a glass slipper, joyously immersing us once again into this fairy tale that so captured our collective psyche.
Hélène Blackburn’s choreography is a portal to the emotions. Stern yet compassionate, brittle yet powerful, this new production pays tribute to the qualities of heart and mind that give us the strength to overcome hardship, better ourselves and find fulfillment. Well-versed in the deconstruction of the great classics, Cas Public offers us a new way of being moved and enchanted by the poetic and lyrical power of this masterpiece.
Founded in 1989 by choreographer Hélène Blackburn, Cas Public’s creative process is focused on seeking new approaches to contemporary dance. Since 2001, Cas Public incorporates productions for young people in its programming to introduce a larger audience to dance and thus help the discipline develop.
