PUPPETRY, SHADOW PLAY AND OBJECT THEATRE
Don Quixote leaves his village on a personal quest to rescue widows and orphans. With his faithful companion Sancho Panza, he sets off across the entire country in search of adventure, but his overactive imagination soon causes him to be called a madman wherever he travels. Caught between reality and fiction, Quixote and Sancha begin to wonder whether what they are seeing is truly real or just the product of the romantic knight’s fanciful imaginings.
Freely adapted from Miguel de Cervantes’ The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of la Mancha, this version created by Ombres Folles is brought to life through shadow theatre, the perfect medium to represent illusions and how reality can be distorted. The company uses imagination and humour to engage its young spectators as we follow the lively duo on their adventures and examine the troubled relationship between the real and the virtual that is so emblematic of our society.
Founded in 2005, Ombres Folles champions the world of the imagination, creating productions that arouse the curiosity and imagination of spectators both young and old. Committed to fostering contemporary puppetry, the company explores the playful side of shadow and object theatre while challenging our fears, our taboos and our faults. Quichotte is Ombres Folles’ sixth creation.
